Rozen Maiden + Haruhi + History Blagh
Swear to me on this rose ring.
Finished Rozen Maiden. It was epic. I highly recommend it to anyone who reads this post. The ending was simple, yet poignant, though I myself wish there was more, and the little “third season” actually had some more plot to it. However, I found out that the old manga was abruptly ended. Yes. What a travesty. Ah well. All in all, a good waste of time that would have been done doing history homework.
Point two: Haruhi. It seems I have a “competitor” when it comes to the re-airing of Season 2. I am not sure if I can really call it “competition”, as the end result is somewhat…ehh. I can’t really say anything myself, but I have to say I believe my version to be vastly superior to this mysterious rival’s. First of all, they use a set of subs that have been created without working on the actual raw. Something like that really doesn’t work. It’s like trying to recreate a missing puzzle piece with only a rough sketch of the hole. It may work to some extent, but it won’t be nearly as nice if you actually had the incomplete puzzle to play with. Secondly, they downloaded the raw, muxed with the subtitles, stuck their group name, “Ugly”, to the beginning of the filename, and called it a release. The FLR RAWS version has several major flaws: Out of perhaps 35000 frames, only 400 or so of those are i-frames. A good 70% of that are b-frames. Needless to say, seeking in a file like that is a NIGHTMARE. They probably don’t even include chapter points. (I can say that the group name most likely says it all.)
I offer several added goodies to the Frankenstien-type release of episode 5. Although it takes me somewhat a magnitude of time longer to release than they, I go through many more steps to ensure that the quality is superior. Timings are checked and double-checked. Encoding is done two-pass with a sane b/p frame settings. QC is done, and errors corrected, even though the translations are sourced from a.f.k. Finally, as a perk, the op/ed contain more eye-candy than the simple karaoke.
That aside, time to rant about history. “Modern World History” is basically a lie. Attempting to explain “world” history from a US point of view results in a biased retelling of events that may or may not describe what actually happened. Such an injustice must not be lived down. Combine bad curricula with a teacher that’s even worse, and I’d say you get a really bad class. Almost every assignment is completed with a hefty amount of BS. Dunno why I’d even care anymore. Can’t wait until school winds down.
I have yet to begin Rozen Maiden myself, but I will start it the moment I have the time, most definitely. As for the Haruhi business, I find myself believing you. And as for our Modern World History class…
Everything is indeed done made of more BS than not, and our teacher talks more about her children than history. Not to mention she is fond of pulling guilt cards and calling us either ethnocentric, racist, bad Americans who take for granted what we have, or more something-or-anothers that are aimed to judge us. Really, I’m not finding myself liking the class too much either.
When school winds down, I’m sure we’ll all be a little less…Melancholy…no pun intended.
Much love, Nol-chan.
Perfect description of my world history class, too…at least the teacher part.
