Haruhi + Life

First things first, this will be a dual-purpose post, just because I am way too lazy to make two posts, and I really think that one post should suffice. Since a majority of you probably want the Haruhi news first, I’ll skip to that.

First of all, all my previous releases are now available on the “[Shamisen] Haruhi” bot. All future distros will probably be here as well. Perhaps they’ll even be on both bots. The future will only tell. Secondly, I’ve been exploring new raw sources and have managed to grab a transport stream for the fourth episode. The listed resolution seems to be 1080(i/p), which may or may not be nice-looking. I have not yet seen the actual video myself. As it stands, I will most likely be still releasing in the 720p format, and if enough demand is expressed a 1080p release may follow. I highly doubt that though. After a short preview of the video, I’ve decided that there will be no 1080 release. It just won’t look real nice at that resolution. Note that there is NO ETA on any release of episode four. No ETA. This means don’t bother me. I doubt anyone really reads this but still, don’t bother. Yes, it may take a few days, or maybe even a week, but it’ll take a little time to encode the raw to my liking.

While I’m at it I probably would like to thank #Shamisen for providing me with a better form of distro. Should have said it back in that paragraph there but it’s too much of a hassle. Yes. I am too lazy to copy/paste. If you were reading just for the Haruhi part, you’d want to stop now.

Ahhh, the joys of procrastination. Procrastination brought you this blog post. These 400 or so words are the result of my insane biology teacher. Yes, I have so much work to do, and she still insists that we outline two chapters from the textbook. They’re not even the sort of chapters you could just skim over too. (The whole book is basically an outline.) School takes so much of my time. I dunno. It can be fun…wait, no not really. It can’t. In a general way, anything and everything that helps one procrastinate is good. Sometimes it’s fun to just sit back and watch stuff. By stuff it means either House or some anime.

I’m watching Rozen Maiden right now, on a suggestion from my friend. Yay. After watching the first episode, all I can really say is that it’s quite interesting. I think I’ll attempt to outline my biology chapter while watching dolls beat each other up. Then I’ll download that doujinshi game that I saw before and play that. All in the name of procrastination.

    first off, great job on providing subs for this season (presumably because you, like me, have hopes for s2)

    a problem I have, though, is that in the first ep, during the scene where the book w/ club requirements is translated, the ep slows down and timing is broken…

    this might also occur in other eps (I just dl’ed from shamisen and watched the fist ep…)

    could you do a version 2 (when you have the time) ? The quality of the video here is really good, so I hope to have a working version (otherwise, it would be a waste, y’know?)

    Thanks a lot, and good luck w/ successive eps.

    Thanks for the HD Haruhi, you are doing a great job, keep it up!

    @alyu
    I’m pretty sure it’s synched. Unless we are looking at different parts of the episode. Where exactly are you experiencing sync issues?

    Also, I do hope you have a recent and decent MKV splitter. Maybe your computer just can’t handle the 720p resolution + softsubbing. There’s too many things to account for.

    Thanks for the feedback though.

    Wouldn’t it be easier if you just did the stuff and then enjoyed yourself? My dad has been trying to hammer that into my brain for the last… 13 years or so, and actually, it does make my life a bit more enjoyable. No more pointless burning my eyes out on the computer. Then again, I did end up having interesting conversations with people.

    I will bring the bio SAT book tomorrow. It’s not as complex and in-depth as Barron’s, but Barron’s is wayyy too complicated. Did you know that the nephron is in the kidney? Yeah. Apparently it is. And you don’t need that for the SATII. But Barrons says you need it.
    But now I’m rambling. Probably because I’m kinda bored. .____.;
    But I will need the book back sometime in the summer. I’ve decided that I’m retaking the Bio SAT in September to get a 800. o____o;

    Okay, I’ll stop now.

    @‘Vina
    But I doooo enjoy myself. It helps me to take my mind off the bio lab that I have due tomorrow. It’s comforting, and at the same time, really nice to see what comes out of the process. :P

    Lol, good luck with your 800 endeavor. I have an inking that even if I get a 800 now, colleges might not like the fact that it was so long ago.

    at 17:01, right where the subs on the book (that kyon reads from) is, the frame rate slows down. it does catch up, strangely, by speeding up the next few secs, up to the point where “old shack” is mentioned, at which point the video mysteriously resyncs. Also, if you move the frame the the next part right around 17:01, the subs on the book disappear, and the video runs as normal. maybe player’s fault? Im using media player classic (oh yeah, ftw, lol) w/ cccp codecs.

    If you can fix it (assuming I am not the only one with this problem), that would be awesome. If the fault is on my end, someone help me plz!

    thx for all the hard work.

    @alyu
    The subtitle disappearance is a common phenomenon with seeking and VSFilter. It’s nothing to worry about.

    It seems that the subtitle \move effect on those lines have some high rate of CPU consumption, and causes lag there. The encode itself is fine, as if you play it without the subtitles, it plays as normal.

    The slowing, then speeding is most like MPC itself attempting to resync the audio and video. Symptom of insufficient CPU power for that one scene. Personally, my video just skips to the next keyframe, and stays there until the audio catches up.

    I am not considering making a v2 at this point, as the method of distro used almost precludes the possibility of withdrawing it, and therefore it would not be worth the effort.

    then, could you provide the subs (on some uploading site like megaupload) without the book being subbed so this problem doesn’t happen? I’ll add the fixed-subs to the video. that way, you don’t have to distribute a version 2…

    also, I think it would be better to do releases in torrent form, since we don’t know if shamisen decides to pull the bots off their channel.

    Distro is done via bot and torrent.
